The Dutch mobile messaging and collaboration specialist Zarafa has signed a framework agreement with the Catholic Church in Germany (Verband der Diözesen Deutschlands, VDD) to implement its collaboration platform. This country wide contract, that includes enterprise service level agreements, allows the entire German Catholic Church to benefit from the better total cost of ownership and quality advantages of open source groupware.
The VDD decided to go with Zarafa’s Collaboration Platform (ZCP) after a first reference installation with 3.850 users in Bavaria. Zarafa meets the demands of stable Outlook integration and WebAccess, smartphone support and full integration with the Blackberry Enterprise Server.
Helmuth Neuberger, CEO Zarafa Germany says: “The entire German Catholic Church can now use a sustainable open source collaboration platform. This framework allows them to purchase ZCP on special conditions without having to conduct a procurement process”.
Zarafa teams up for this with Gold Partner Millenux, who adds its great experience in high availability computing and virtualisation, and Red Hat.
Zarafa and Millenux are both Red Hat Advanced Partners.

Presenting new partnerships at Solutions Linux, 16-18 March, Paris
Zarafa, the Dutch mobile messaging and collaboration specialist gets a foothold in France. Today, Zarafa announces that it has signed contracts with the French open source systems integrator Smile and with French distributor ETC. With these contracts and her presence at Solutions Linux, Europe’s largest commercial open source exhibition, Zarafa aims to strengthen its international market position.
Partnering with Smile is valuable for Zarafa because it is the leading integrator of open source solutions in France and one of the largest in the world. Recently, Smile has replaced a major part of its Microsoft Exchange environment by Zarafa’s Collaboration Platform.
Zarafa has chosen for Red Hat distributor ETC because the company services a lot of Red Hat partners and even has a specialized open source department. ETC will add Zarafa as only groupware mail and calendar solution to its product range.
Brian Joseph, co-founder and CEO of Zarafa: “France is using open source. The French research firm Markess expects that in 2011 some 63 percent of the French firms and organisations will use open source office applications. France is the next logical step for our expansion in Europe. Like in The Netherlands, the French government policy requires that in case of equal fitness, open source must be preferred over proprietary software. According to Markess almost the entire French public sector, 96 percent, is using open source. After successful Zarafa migrations in Dutch, Belgian, Brazilian and German government organizations, we now see first Zarafa adoption within the French government as well”.
Zarafa will be present at Solutions Linux, 16-18 March in Paris. At her booth (hall 1, C31) Zarafa will daily showcase the new features of its Collaboration Platform 6.40. Software updates include a Today View and Advanced Search options that even allows you to search inside attachments. Furthermore, Zarafa actively participates in the conference program and a TV debate of Solutions Linux, here you can find all details.
